About
Jin McRae (also known as James Hwang) is a lifelong learner and educator based in Treaty 6 Territory, in Edmonton. He is a teacher leader with interests in decolonization, diversity, equity, human rights, and reconciliation.
Currently, Jin serves as the Department Team Lead Teacher of English Language Arts and a field member on the Alberta Teachers' Association's provincial committee on Diversity, Equity, and Human Rights. Jin is also a part-time student in the Doctor of Education program at the University of British Columbia.

Jin completed his Master of Education in Educational Studies, Bachelor of Education in Secondary Education, and Bachelor of Science in Psychology, all from the University of Alberta.
As part of his Master of Education program, Jin conducted a capstone academic research project on the intersection between racially marginalized teachers and Indigenous education implementation in Alberta schools. Jin continues to welcome further exploration and thoughts on this topic and shares his research findings and its implications by speaking at conferences and teachers' conventions. Jin is also proud of his dual Korean-Canadian heritage and identity. Born in Seoul, South Korea as 황진하 (Hwang Jinha), Jin immigrated and naturalized to Edmonton, Canada, at the age of 10. He adopted the family name, McRae, after his marriage. Jin is fluent in Korean and English.
