The Relaunch of Jin McRae's Free Email Newsletter, "Let's Decolonize First"

After completing his Master of Education degree, Jin McRae has rebranded his free email newsletter with the title, "Let's Decolonize First" to refocus his efforts on decolonization. His Master's degree research capstone project titled, "Canadian Reconciliation by Racialized Settlers: Visible Minority Teachers' Responses to Decolonization, Indigenization, and Reconciliation" highlighted findings that decolonization must occur first before Indigenization and reconciliation could take place. Jin McRae also wishes to increase awareness and advocacy for racialized settlers and visible minority immigrants to be included in conversations surrounding decolonization and reconciliation, as current mainstream discussions are centered around a dichotomy between the White/European and the Indigenous, neglecting anyone who does not identify with either group. Broadening the dichotomy by using the term "settler" may include this neglected group, but Jin McRae's capstone research project found that the acceptance of the term "immigrant" is more widespread for the group and they do not necessarily identify as settlers, as this term is equated with historic European pioneers on Turtle Island (North America). Perhaps the term could be more inclusive by saying, "settlers and immigrants" but it is not a perfect solution. Regardless, Jin McRae's new focus and relaunch takes place immediately, and he invites everyone to subscribe to his free email newsletter to join the journey towards decolonizing the self and society.
